With the growing of security issues associated with the development of IoT technology, on January 28, 2019, the Japanese government enacted a law which empowers government officials to evaluate the scope of security issues involved with IoT by hacking to civilians’ IoT devices. The assumption is that the program is aimed toward minimizing the possibility of threats of cyber attacks during the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.

The first hacking trial will be conducted in February by employees of the National Institute of Information and Communications Technology (NICT), under the supervision of the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications.
